ARRRRRGH. SO CUTE. I HATE CUTE BOYFRIENDS.

healthyalternative:

Today, for the first time, I have a guest contributor. :)

My lovely boyfriend snuck down to Virginia from Brooklyn and surprised me in the best (Healthy Alternative) way. He told me on the phone to go to the spice section of Giant grocery store because he wanted to do a cooking challenge with me, and that we needed to discuss spices before we bought ingredients. We were going to mimic the show Chopped by cooking a meal based around only a few select ingredients. We were going to each take a pic of our meal, then show the pics to our fiends and let them vote on whos was the best and most creative. He acted like he was in the spice section of his local Brooklyn grocery store. He told me that he was getting a call on the other line, put me on hold, then walked up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder. I was a little startled, but more than that, I felt like I was dreaming or something … like it wasn’t real. It was the craziest feeling. So Happy! It was the best surprise ever.

Anyway, back to the contribution. He ended up making me a lovely (almost entirely paleo) feast. He drizzled a roasted anaheim chili and seared garlic aioli that he made from scratch over the top of a broiled lean cut of beef. It was sided with a grilled garlic and onion eggplant mash, topped with tomato and avocado (a weird, but delicious combo). And he also made up the most amazing salad. The corn in the salad was the only non-paleo thing in the meal, but it was worth it. It was sweet corn that was cooked on the cob then cut onto the salad. No salt, no preservatives, no grains, beans, rice, or potatoes. Only veggies, meat, balsamic, EVOO, herbs, and spices. He wanted me to give a big thank you to all of my followers on his behalf for inspiring me and also for being inspired by my posts/dishes/journey.

Overnight Breakfast: A Feast For Reluctant Risers

I’ve never been much good at mornings. For most of my life, I prided myself on being a night owl, the type of gal who could always handle one more thing after midnight — another phone call, a few more pages of a novel, a last turn on the dance floor. For years, I even showered at night. And if, in the morning, I couldn’t produce a civil word before my first sip of coffee, well, that was a small price to pay.

The other price was breakfast. Night owls are clumsy in the morning, and always running late — so making a plate of eggs or baking a muffin or frying a sausage, I felt, would have been hazardous as well as time-consuming. For years, I knew no breakfast. Not even on the weekends, when by the time I eased my idle toes out of bed into a puddle of late morning sun, it was basically time for lunch.

It never occurred to me that I could have spent my last few conscious moments the night before making breakfast, instead of watching one more YouTube video or Googling the definition of “lagomorph.” Hence, I failed until recently to explore the many charms of the overnight breakfast. - (Photo credit: T. In case you haven’t had breakfast yet, try out the recipe for the French Toast. Yum! -Savy

Brunch is always necessary. I go to Brown for a great brunch, and quiet setting. I recommend you try one of the “baked eggs” dishes, pictured here. Never forget to treat yourself to a good meal!
On another note, someone asked me my thoughts on combining Gold and Silver Accessories. This photograph is an example of how I wear the two. Growing up, I would never wear both. Now, I’ve been wearing both Gold and Silver [Accessories] together for the past few years. It’s all about balancing the weight of your pieces.
These are the staples I wear [almost] daily: My Grandfather’s Gold Wedding Band, Gold Plated Leva Ring [atop], White Gold Traditional Hawaiian Personalized Ring, Sterling Silver / Bronze / Gold ID Bracelet [purchased at a Flea Market in Tuscany] and my Grandfather’s Gold / Silver Dual-Face Danish Watch.

Tay, who photographs you and when are you and I going to have a shoot??! STEEZY AS FUCK. Love you!
